Wolf Range Repair on Beacon Hill

Conditions here

  • Air Open ridge air Wind across the ridge finds gaps in older window frames; we check whether a flickering flame is a draught or a burner fault.
  • Building Ridge houses, older kitchens A newer Wolf range in an older kitchen may be fed by gas and power runs from earlier days; we check both ends of each.
  • Access Residential streets Parking is usually on the street outside; steps up from the pavement to the front door are worth mentioning.
Dark stainless gas range with black knobs, oven open and empty, one burner cap lifted off onto the cooktop deck and a wrench on a green towel

Beacon Hill’s houses run along a long open ridge, and the wind that crosses it finds every gap an older window frame has opened up. That matters in a kitchen, because a Wolf burner is an open flame in a moving room. Wolf Repair Seattle, (206) 339-4211, asks about draughts before it talks about parts.

A flame that flickers, and what it means

A healthy burner flame stands still and blue, with a defined inner cone. Air crossing the cooktop makes it lean, ripple and now and then lift clear of the port, and from a step away that looks exactly like a burner about to give up. Take the draught out and see: shut the kitchen door and any window on the windward side, switch off an extractor, and watch the same burner again on a low setting.

If it settles, the burner is sound and the room was the problem. If it still leans, pulses or carries yellow with the room closed, the mixture is wrong rather than disturbed, and that sits in the cap, the ports or the valve. The order those are tested in is on our Wolf range repair page, and the charge for the visit is set out on what the $89 service call covers.

Down the ridge to the west, Georgetown is lofts in old industrial buildings, often with a rangetop standing apart from the oven.

  • The fan would not switch off unless we pulled the breaker. A speed control had failed closed. He carried one, and showed me the old contacts, welded together.

  • The induction zone kept quitting under my stock pot. Its cooling fan was packed solid with grease. Cleaned, tested, and he explained what to watch for rather than selling me a board.

  • Only the big burner would light, and only sometimes. The gas pressure at the riser was low for the whole building. He measured it, wrote the numbers down, and told me who to call.
