How to Restart a Wolf Oven After a Power Flicker
What a Wolf oven needs after the power blinks: the clock and control lock on dual fuel models, relighting on all-gas ranges, the 20-second breaker reset, and when to stop and call.
In a Seattle winter, wind brings down branches onto overhead lines, and the lights in the kitchen blink off for a second or an hour. A Wolf oven takes that differently depending on how it heats: a dual fuel oven loses its clock and settings, while an all-gas oven loses the spark that lights it. Which oven you have, and why it matters
A dual fuel range has a gas cooktop on top and an electric oven underneath, run from a touchscreen and a knob. When the power blinks, the oven itself is fine, but its control forgets the time and may come back locked. Nothing heats until those are dealt with, which makes a working oven look broken.
An all-gas range heats its oven with a gas burner, lit by a spark igniter that only works while the range has power. Here the question after a flicker is not a setting but whether the burner lit again.

Step 1
Work out which oven you have
Open the oven door and read the model on the serial tag, which current Wolf ranges carry at the bottom of the control panel, far right. A model beginning DF is dual fuel, with an electric oven under a gas cooktop. A model beginning GR is all-gas, and its oven burner is lit by a spark igniter. The two recover from a blink in different ways.

Step 2
Dual fuel: set the clock, then clear the lock
On a current dual fuel range with a touchscreen, the clock and the control lock both need resetting after an outage. Set the time under Settings, then Time; a range connected to Wi-Fi sets its own clock. If the panel still ignores you, touch and hold Lock for three seconds to release it.

Dual fuel still dead: 20 seconds at the breaker
If the control panel does not respond at all, switch the range's breaker off, wait 20 seconds, and switch it back on. If only the oven knob's display is blank, pull the knob off and push it back on first, then try the breaker.

Step 4
All-gas: let it relight, or cycle the knob
A Wolf gas oven that was left on through a short cut should light again by itself when power comes back. If it does not, turn the oven knob to Off and back to your setting. The igniter clicks until the burner catches, which normally happens within about 40 seconds. A flashing indicator light also clears with the knob turned off and on.

Run one short preheat
Set a plain bake and let it preheat. A dual fuel oven chimes when it reaches temperature; on either kind, check that warmth is building behind the door glass. An oven that heats normally has come through the flicker with nothing more to do.
Why a gas oven waits for the power
The igniter is the only way a Wolf gas oven lights, so while the power is off the oven burner cannot light, whatever the knob says. That is the reason Wolf advises turning the oven off during an outage rather than leaving it set, and the reason there is no safe way to light it by hand. Once power is back, give the igniter its full chance to catch before deciding anything is wrong.
When the flicker did more than blank the clock
A brief cut rarely harms an oven, but a panel that stays dark after a clean breaker reset, or one that shows a message instead of the home screen, points at the control itself or at the supply feeding it. Can I light a Wolf gas oven with a match when the power is out?
No. The oven burner needs electricity for its igniter, and Wolf is clear that a gas oven must never be lit without power. Wolf also suggests switching the oven off whenever the power drops. Why does my Wolf dual fuel oven ignore every button after a storm?
Usually because the control lock needs resetting after an outage, or the control has not restarted cleanly. Holding Lock for three seconds clears the first; switching the breaker off for 20 seconds clears the second.
